First of all, what exactly is the door security industry?
Door supervisors usually patrol and guard the door of licensed premises (such as nightclubs or bars) to protect them from things like damage, disorderly conduct, theft or unauthorised access.
This can involve checking tickets, directing people in queues or crowds, dealing with emergencies, enforcing dress codes, trying to resolve or manage conflict, working with emergency services, patrolling a venue and escorting people out if required.
Among other skills, door supervisors need to have knowledge of public safety and security, a calm temperament, the ability to work well under pressure, excellent communication and concentration skills, the ability to absorb and pay attention to detail and a team player approach.
Suitable Security Industry Authority (SIA) specialist training courses are available for people to gain their SIA- licence (a UK legal requirement for anyone who has a private security role), once they have completed an Emergency First Aid at Work (or equivalent) course. With some providers, these qualifications can be combined.
